To meet social and environmental needs, Menchi has decided to invest in sustainability, setting as objectives the reduction of the company’s environmental impact and respect for workers’ rights. To best explain its intentions, the mill has drafted a sustainability policy document.
The GRS certification attests to the quantity of recycled fibers within each production batch. The Global Recycle Standard guarantees that products contain at least 20% recycled material and verifies that social and environmental standards are respected at every stage of the production process. Menchi has been certified since 2017 and, in addition to purchased GRS material, also uses GRS fibers from internal waste recovery.
A growing interest in animal welfare has led Menchi to obtain a certification that protects the well-being of sheep and the land on which they graze. RWS attests to the origin of wool from responsible farms and certifies every stage of the production process, from farming to the finished product. It also guarantees the presence of at least 5% RWS wool in fabrics.
To guarantee an increasingly sustainable product, Menchi has committed to obtaining GOTS certification, which ensures that our fabrics contain at least 70% natural fibers from organic farming. Furthermore, this guarantees that the required standards are met at every single stage of the production process.
Better Cotton Initiative encourages textile companies to purchase cotton from plantations deemed sustainable from both an environmental and social perspective. BCI farmers, following the Better Cotton Standard, produce cotton in full respect of the environment, minimizing water waste and the use of fertilizers and pesticides. Menchi has supported this project since 2020 with the goal of making the mill increasingly sustainable.
Menchi Tessuti offers OCS-certified textile products and manufacturing activities, made with natural fibers, both plant and animal, produced in accordance with the strict criteria of organic farming. Our attention to quality and sustainability reflects a concrete commitment to the environment and people’s well-being.
The RAF standard certifies the origin of wool, mohair, or alpaca from responsibly managed farms, respecting animal welfare and reducing environmental impact. Menchi Tessuti ensures traceability throughout the entire production chain, from livestock farms to textile manufacturing.
