CAMEL

The oldest color of luxury.
A fiber that does not need to be dyed to be perfect.

The fiber

Camel wool:
luxury from the desert

Camel wool comes from the undercoat of the Bactrian camel — the two-humped species of the Mongolian and Chinese steppes. It is harvested in spring, when the camel naturally molts its coat. The fiber is not shorn: it is collected by hand, tuft by tuft, from the hair that falls spontaneously.

The natural color of camel wool — that unmistakable warm beige — is one of the most recognizable colors in the world of luxury. Menchi processes camel wool both in its natural color and in dyed versions, always maintaining the fiber’s main characteristic: exceptional thermal capacity combined with a surprisingly light weight.

The Menchi Camel family is among the most requested by international buyers: the queries “camel fabric” and “camel wool” are growing strongly in the global luxury market, and Menchi is recognized as one of the Italian benchmarks for this fiber.

Why choose it

The qualities of Menchi
camel wool

Exceptional warmth

The hollow structure of the camel fiber makes it one of the most effective natural insulators in the world. A Menchi camel wool coat is warm like no other synthetic material can be.

Unique natural color

Natural camel beige is a color that cannot be artificially replicated with the same depth. Each batch has slightly different shades: it is nature’s signature on the fiber.

Structural lightness

For the same level of warmth, camel wool is significantly lighter than traditional wool. The result is a coat that protects against the cold without weighing down the silhouette.

Resistance and longevity

Camel fiber is naturally resistant to abrasion. A Menchi camel wool fabric maintains its shape and appearance for decades, if properly stored.

From raw material to fabric

How a Menchi camel wool
fabric is born

01

Harvesting and selection

The fiber is collected by hand during the spring molt. Menchi exclusively selects the undercoat — the finest and softest part — manually separating it from the coarser guard hair.

02

Dehairing and cleaning

The raw fiber is cleaned of impurities and vegetable residues. The dehairing process is delicate to preserve the hollow structure of the fiber, which is responsible for its thermal properties.

03

Weaving and structure

Camel wool requires specific weaving parameters to enhance its natural softness. Menchi uses weaves that enhance the fall and drape of the fiber.

04

Finishing and control

Finishing camel wool is an art: temperatures and pressures calibrated to the millimeter to obtain the desired hand without altering the natural properties of the fiber.
