SILK

The fiber that changed the world.
The luster that no other fiber can match.

Our philosophy on silk

“Silk does not age.
It transforms. Like everything that is alive.”

Silk is one of the oldest and most refined fibers in textile history: over five thousand years of culture, research, and use in the highest level of production.

Menchi integrates this material into its collection through various types: from raw silk to tussah, through to shantung and cruelty-free variants selected for specific characteristics of yield, structure, and weaving performance.

Used pure, in blends with noble fibers, or as a technical element within more complex constructions, silk allows for fabrics with natural luster, material depth, and a distinctive hand, which can range from smooth and fluid to more textured and irregular.

Menchi silk is recognizable not only for its appearance but for its ability to adapt to different projects, maintaining consistency, quality, and control over time.

The fiber

Silk:
a woven history

Silk is produced by the silkworm (Bombyx mori), which wraps its cocoon in a single continuous thread up to 1,500 meters long. It is the natural fiber with a structure most similar to light: the triangular section of the yarn reflects light rays like a prism, creating that unique and inimitable luster that has fascinated humanity for millennia.

Menchi works with high-quality silk — predominantly Mulberry silk, the most precious — both in its pure form and in blends with other noble fibers from the collection. Pure silk is intended for lightweight outerwear fabrics and highly elegant dresses. Silk-cashmere, silk-wool, and silk-alpaca blends are among the most sought-after items in the collection: they combine the luster of silk with the softness and warmth of animal fibers.

The Menchi Silk family is constantly evolving: new items are added following the Heraclitean philosophy of the collection, responding to the requests of buyers and the trends of the international luxury market.

Why choose it

The qualities of Menchi silk

Inimitable luster

The prismatic structure of silk yarn reflects light in a unique way. No natural or synthetic fiber can replicate this luster: it is the visual signature of silk, immediately recognizable.

Absolute lightness

Silk is the lightest natural fiber. A Menchi silk fabric has a fluid and enveloping drape that no other fiber can match: it is worn like a second skin, weightless.

Natural thermoregulation

Silk is cool in summer and warm in winter. Its protein structure naturally regulates body temperature, making it the ideal fiber for outerwear and garments in every season.

Unique hand

The touch of silk is unmistakable: soft, slippery, and cool. In blends with cashmere and alpaca, silk adds a tactile dimension that elevates the entire fiber to a superior level of luxury.

The Silk family

ART. GINCANA

Pure Silk

The wavy surface breaks the regularity of the fiber, transforming luster into vibration. The result is a lightweight fabric with a dynamic hand and non-uniform visual depth. For sophisticated garments where silk moves beyond its most classic form to become an expressive material.

ART. TOKOL

Silk Cashmere Linen

A rich and textured fabric where silk, cashmere, and linen balance light, softness, and structure. The result is a full-bodied fabric with a substantial hand and calibrated visual depth. For sophisticated garments where the material defines the character and quality is perceived over time.

Wool & Silk

The open and slightly irregular structure enhances the naturalness of the fiber, allowing an authentic, soft yet consistent texture to emerge. The wool provides body, while the silk lightens and illuminates, creating a balance between warmth and brightness.

From raw material to fabric

How a Menchi silk
fabric is born

01

Reeling and selection

Silk yarn is obtained by unwinding the cocoon in hot water — a process called reeling. Menchi selects Grade A Mulberry silk, the most regular and brilliant, to ensure the maximum quality of the final fabric.

02

Silk dyeing

Silk absorbs dyes extraordinarily well: colors appear more brilliant, deep, and luminous than in any other fiber. Dyeing takes place at low temperatures to preserve the protein structure of the yarn.

03

Delicate weaving

Silk requires specific weaving parameters: lower tensions, reduced speeds, and weaves that enhance the natural luster of the fiber. Menchi uses satin and twill weaves to maximize light reflection.

04

Finishing and polishing

Silk finishing is an art: delicate steaming, light calendering, and final polishing to enhance the natural luster. Every item is inspected under light to verify the uniformity of the surface.
